Iceland has become a fashion victim.

I noticed this as I was in a convenient-store today with my family. We were just buying something for lunch, very casual. And then it hit me: We were all wearing color-matching clothes. And not only that, but I also noticed (with great displeasure) that we were wearing gray-and-earth-toned clothes ... and it's still early August!

Tomorrow I have to go shopping. It is vital to my existence. I have decided to buy at least one shirt in a store called Sputnik. As you may have guessed, they sell very colorful clothes. I have also noticed that I have no color in my wardrobe ... I don't know why! My hostfamily in Switzerland, for example, had very colorful clothes - I must've stuck out like a sore thumb when I was with them ... Switzerland was pretty colorful, though, wasn't it? What is it with us Icelanders and our lack of color? Perhaps it's because it's always so gray and dark here ...

The job-search went well. The first store I went to was the bookstore, where I had actually applied vehemently about 18 months ago. To my great surprise, the woman in charge of hiring people remembered me and told me that she'd been thinking about me just yesterday because she needed someone to fill in for the next few weeks! Coincidence or what?! I can't say I have the job 100%, but I'm hoping ... I can tell you next week :D

Music of the day: Crazy in Love - Beyoncé Knowles. No, I am not crazy in love if that's what you think! But this song absolutely rules! I mean, when people diss today's popmusic, I perfectly understand where they're coming from ... but songs like these ... wow. This is trash at its best! And I mean that in a good way :)
Movie of the day: Wrong Turn. I actually just came from the cinema ... this film was fun. Nothing spectacular, but if you're like me and like seeing people killed by retarded, inbred hillbillies in gory, graphic detail, Wrong Turn is your kind of film. Kinda like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre updated for today's youth ... although that film has already been remade and is coming out soon ... guess they got tired of copying Scream, huh?

Mmmmm ... I love hamburgers :)

I decided to get my new email address working today, even though it's been available for the past 5 months ... there's always so much to do when you change email addresses ... you have to tell everyone you know, have to add everyone you know to your new address book etc, etc ... it's a hard job and it took up all my morning when i should have been at the gym! But, alas, I am very lazy as you probably already know.

Tomorrow my good friend Linda is going away to Spain or something - into the heatwave! Even Iceland has had its share of this heatwave: It was above 20°C today! How shocking! But it was nice ... would have been nicer had I been awake earlier than 13.00PM ... this sleeping-in thing has got to stop! Yes, tomorrow, I am going to wake up EARLY, go to the gym and GET A JOB!

What kind of a job should I get? Weeeeellllllll ... here's what I'm thinking at the moment:

* Lowly clerk at Cinema
Pros: I get to see all the new movies for free, which in return means that I will have mucho, mucho money because I spend all my cash on the movies anyway ...
Cons: This is not exactly a very respectable job ... and I have to wear a stupid uniform ... and Icelandic-moviegoers are obnoxious, loud slobs. I don't want to clean up after them ...

* Lowly clerk at CD-store
Pros: Cheaper CDs and DVDs ... and it's just cool to be able to say that I work at "Skífan" :) (you'd understand if you were from here ...)
Cons: This is a hard job to get because just about everybody wants it. And most of the DVDs they're selling here in Iceland are already on my shelf :) (for a better look - see this)

* Sophisticated clerk at Bookstore
Pros: This is the Icelandic student's dream job, especially if you're in my school, MH, where everybody dresses "artistically" and talk intellectually about post-modernism and its effect on 20th century literature, while drinking cappuccinos or swiss-moccas ...
Cons: Almost impossible to get unless you have good connections ...

* Renowned, award-winning filmmaker
Pros: My lifelong dream come true ... and enough money to buy not only all the DVDs I want, but also the Big-screen plasma TV :D
Cons: Renowned, award-winning filmmaker in Iceland? Ahemm ...

Music of the day: Another Suitcase, Another Hall from Evita (preferably sung by Madonna) ... I saw Alan Parker's Evita the other day and have been obsessed ever since. Madonna + Andrew Lloyd Webber = Perfection!
Movie of the day: Today's movie is a big, big mess called Ghost Ship. Do yourselves a favor and DO NOT see this awful film!

Ok, finally ... the silence has been broken!!!

I don't know how many of you are familiar with these "blogs", but here in Iceland they are extremely popular -> and extremely useful if you know a lot of people that are hard to reach, like most of you are!

What are these blogs about? Basically you can write whatever you want to - it's like an Internet-Diary, but for everyone to read. I'm actually hoping some of you think this is a cool idea and do something like this yourselves - it's much easier than writing everyone an email, but just as effective. And you can comment on everything I write below :D Very interactive, aye? ;)

So what have I been doing these past few days? I just survived what we call "Þjóðhátíð" or "Verslunarmannahelgi", which is basically a long weekend where everyone goes camping and gets really drunk. It was lots of fun to say the least ... and very expensive too. When you're drunk, buying neon-colored beer-glasses for ca. 10 franks seems like a bargain!

Now I'm just trying to relax - am listening to Liz Phair's latest CD (called ... wait ... "Liz Phair" ... the originality astounds me) which is really good (though nothing compared to "Exile in Guyville" ;D) and am waiting for my friend to call me and tell me he's done working for today so we can go and edit a music video we're making. After the music video I'll start making the "Switzerland Documentary" I was telling you about ... but I wouldn't start getting excited just now ... I've got over 10 hours of video to go through and then I have to edit it all together ... it's gonna take a while :D

I hope most of you will read this (at least while I'm still writing it ... I take no responsibilty for my laziness) and if you have something to say, just write me at ze_lingur@hotmail.com or leave a comment! I don't know how often I will update this blog, but at least a few times a week - just when I feel like it :D When will I have something new to say? Isn't the suspense just killing you? ;D Just check it out a couple of times a day and you'll see ;) Or not ...

Music of the day: Why Can't I - Liz Phair
Movie of the day: Independence Day ... just bought this because I wanted to feel nostalgic, and even though it's not a very good movie I still had lots of fun! :D
